Hi,
I am new to Oracle.
So, I just wanted to know that “Oracle Business Rules” comes with which Edition of Oracle 11g?
Or do we have to install it explicitly?

Good post as usual James.

What about support fo C#.NET/Oracle shops - do you think it's better for them to go with iLog (rules as native .net assemblies), vs. having to staff up on on the J2 side to reap the benefits of the Oracle solution stack?

David
Don't disagree with you on the needs for improvement but, as you say, it is showing steady improvement. As far as I can tell it is the 11g rules product that is going forward as a general purpose rules platform - Ruleburst is focused on the government sector as an application engine while Haley has vanished into the CRM platform. Hopefully we will see more from Oracle in this space.

It's a bit of an improvement over 10g, but here is my list of improvements they can make

This is my wishlist:
rule flow editor: I now have to jiggle with priorities to control my order of execution, that becomes a disaster with a large ruleset.
rule management capabilities: currently they removed (the dreadful Rule Author), but its replacement SOA composer is still a long way out and its not in the PS1 preview description
regression testing and simulation: I have to code the test test in Java? A simple point and click interface would be nice.
Out of the box reports: I have to use Java to create simple reports?
Documentation and metadata properties: There's no way to provide descriptive information to my rules.
Rule repository and versioning: non-existent, I can't run rules against older rulesets and I can't see who changed what and when.

Oracle has 3 rules engines (Hayley, Ruleburst & BPM BRE) and neither of them is a serious player, who is else is left that they can buy as they obviously have problems creating their own one.
